A very personal review of 2019

You may have noticed there have been a few changes around here from our salt production to Kent’s School Food Service work. We thought we’d share some of those details here as we wrap up 2019.

MVP Vintners

Last Friday we decided to take a drive out to Manson to find a change of environment for a project we were working on. Where better to work on a project than a tasting room? Especially one with a large, comfy patio! We had walked by this tasting room many times and were drawn by the sound of laughter coming from the outside seating area.

Lake Chelan Brewery

One of our favorite TV scenes is from Downton Abbey. The family is sitting around the dining table and a family member informs them that he is starting a “job.” Everyone around the table is flummoxed. He tells them, of course he’ll have time to help with the family business on the weekend. The dowager then asks, “What is a weekend?” This has become our running joke.

A Mexican Adventure: Sun, Surf, Sand and Sweet Memories!

Our last trip to Bucerias, Mexico was in July. We expected high temperatures, high humidity, and many thunderstorms and we were not disappointed! “Fire it up Baby” was a great success!

Last Saturday we had our first cooking class in Chelan on CA’s porch, “Fire it up, Baby!” an outdoor BBQ class. The focus was to keep it simple, do it all outdoors with some fire, a slab of hard-rock maple, a knife and the hands our mamas gave us!

Exploring the Micro-Cuisine’s of Central Washington

I have to admit, I was pretty bummed when I realized today that I didn’t coin the term “Micro-Cuisine”. CA and I have been getting into and really talking about the local food scene in the central Washington area we live in. We were discussing our plans to begin offering some sort of culinary tourism aspect of our cooking school.

Dammit, Jim, I’m a mother, not a chef!

So far this weekend we’ve spent two days picnicking at the lake. Chelan is a seriously beautiful place to live! In the summertime the population more than doubles and the town is hopping! This is especially true over the 4th of July weekend.

Fab Food Friday

Back in the 80’s while working at Hayden Lake Country Club I worked with this old bartender named Joe. He was a crotchety old guy about 7 feet tall, skinny as a rail with a new joke everyday.
