A Mexican Adventure: Sun, Surf, Sand and Sweet Memories!
“Ohhh, Mexico, it sounds so simple, I just got to go. The sun’s so hot I forgot to go home, guess I’ll have to go now.”
~ James Taylor
Our last trip to Bucerias, Mexico was in July. We expected high temperatures, high humidity, and many thunderstorms and we were not disappointed! We’ll be heading back in April to stay at the gorgeous Casa de la Reyna (the picture below), right on the beach and a short walk from the kiosko or town square. Kent, who has been to Bucerias several times, says the weather is best in April and October! The rainy season does not start until late June and springtime in Mexico is glorious! We will enjoy sunny skies, warm temps and light ocean breezes. We are bringing a group of people for cooking classes, sightseeing, and plenty of swimming in the ocean and the pool at the casa. We still have some space if you’d like to join us.
Early Bird Pricing is in effect through December 31! You can join us for $1499 per person! Learn more by clicking here.
We’ll be sending out a series of emails with stories from our July trip that highlight what you can look forward to should you decide to come along.
Part 1
We arrived in Bucerias mid-afternoon after staying up all night and then traveling early. We had just spent a fantastic, long weekend with most of our kids and many of their friends and family and left them all at home at about 3:00 AM to travel to the airport.
Since we hadn’t eaten much besides airplane pretzels since the night before, our first order of business was to find food. We asked our taxi driver where he likes to eat and he took us to a food truck that the locals frequent, near the airport. We just wanted something small, but ended up with this incredible shrimp and bacon sandwich as big as my head!
Our next stop after finding our condo was a short walk next door to a restaurant where we had our first margarita of the trip! The area was surprisingly quiet. Bucerias is a favorite vacation spot for people who live in the states of Nayarit and Jalisco.
We were told that school would be out for summer break, and in a few days, vacationers from all over Mexico, would arrive and fill the beaches, and revel in the eclectic square in the middle of town!
Our friends, Mike and Kris, had given Kent a citrus juicer for his birthday and recommended that we take it along. Brilliant! After a trip to the store, we were set with fresh vegetables and everything we needed to make our own margaritas and smoothies. Mangoes were ripe on the trees lining the street we walked into town every day and the resort next door had piles of them.
Fresh and Foraged Mango Margaritas, that sounds yucky…said nobody!!
When we are there in April, we will use all the fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season for cooking classes. The breakfast that we’ll share each morning will include all the same lovely, local, and seasonal goodies, including locally grown and roasted coffee from a little street-side vendor near Casa de la Reyna, our home base!
This photo is from Sunday’s open air flea market! What an amazing place!
Part 2 coming soon…
